It's that time of the year again, and one of the most popular and widely discussed Costco wine items is starting to arrive in stores: the 2025 Costco Wine Advent Calendar.
Here's everything you need to know about this year's box.
We were lucky to get a hold of one early this year since last year it wasn't until November when we were able to get our hands on it and make a post.

The first thing to note is the cool, wintery designs that the box is known for, and the branding is once again "Wine Advent-ure" which it reverted back to in 2024 after a change to "Around The World in 24 Wines" in 2023.
There are some new wines in the box this year which is fun, while many of the other details have stayed the same including the $99.99 price.
We like seeing this box staying under the $100 threshold, and in same cases after the holidays, it can be found on sale for much less than that (but it doesn't always linger around).

The box contains 24 bottles that are half size (375ml), which are ultra handy for just pouring a couple of glasses, or switching between multiple varietals and regions.
The selection includes reds, whites, rosé, and usually a bubbly on the last day of the calendar. This year we also find a sake (that was included last year as well and is very good), and even a "chocolate red."

The global regions that are covered also vary slightly from past years but France and Italy dominate. There are 9 bottles from France and 3 from Italy. 1-2 bottles from all others.
Other new offerings from 2025 originate from Germany, New Zealand, Hungary, Greece, Chile and Australia.
If you want to dig in and learn a lot more about each wine, the box has a very well made website that covers each bottle with in depth descriptions and fun, short videos.

We pulled out a few of the new ones to give a taste. Sure, it will break up the box before advent season but we want to give you an idea what to expect.
First up is the Gruner Veltliner from Hungary. We love this varietal but typically buy them from Austria, so this was a fun one to try. Green apple, lime, white peach flavor; medium body, crisp finish with a touch of minerality.
Next we tasted the Vin Twenty-Three Cotes du Rhone blend, another favorite wine region of ours. Classic Rhone blend, light ruby in the glass but packed with dark fruit flavor, little bite on the finish but otherwise not bad.

Also new this year is the "Meadow Moon" German Riesling, which is slightly sweet, with 8.5% alcohol; nice citrus and pear flavor, light and easy going.
The Australian red blend, called Concentric Circles, is made from Shiraz and Cabernet; it offers peppery dark fruit, notes of anise, lasting finish.
And finally we tasted the Chilean Carménère, another new addition this year. The wine was a medium purple in the glass, dark fruit and vegetal, soft tannins and good mouthfeel; our favorite of the wines we tasted.

While the quality on these wines can vary, the box makes it really easy to taste your way around the wine world, and at an amazing price that works out to just $4 per half bottle.
The best way to find this box near you is to use the warehouse search feature in the Costco mobile app. Search using the Costco item number 1755071 (note this number was updated last year; you don't want to use the old number, 1357643).
We know a lot of readers have enjoyed this advent calendar in the past, and this year looks to be much of the same with a few updates that we noted above.
The test is to see if you can find the box now and then hold out to hit the calendar days come December.
Cheers everyone.

When will the advent wine 2025 be available in stores. And which stores will it be sold. Last year, Michigan stores did not get stock.
Editor says
It’s in stores now. Use the Costco mobile app to search warehouses near you: http://costcowineblog.com/how-to-search-wine-inventory-at-any-costco-store/

We also didn't get it in Nebraska in 2024. I was told informally by a staff member that they didn't sell well enough in our area the previous year. Which is odd since they sold out very quickly the first year they had them (maybe 2019 or 2020?). I'm not sure about that but perhaps they do sell better/faster in other locations so they focus on those. Whatever the case, very frustrating. I do remember the box that wasn't a calendar but just half size, wine adventure summer, or something and that one did sit around the store for a long time.
Me says
Half of the wines aren’t drinkable! Save your money!
TPS says
Midwest region chose not to do it again this year. Every other region participated except MW. The only way it changes for next year is to email Costco.

Also, I download the app to search locally, and the aoo couldn't find that item number. I tried it both without being signed in and not in case location made a difference. It said "We're sorry. We were not able to find a match".

The stores in Georgia did not sell them last year. Will they have them this year in 2025?
Editor says
Yes. According to the Costco app search they are in almost all stores around Atlanta area.
You are correct, it did not come here last year.
MS says
SE did have them this year but extremely limited. They are almost sold out.
Elizabeth White says
Will it be available in Winchester, VA?
Joleen says
Last year, Michigan stores did not get the Advent Calendar, although I did purchase it the previous 4 years in a row at the Traverse City location. Will it be shipped to Michigan this year? I’ve checked the app with the number provided and it says ‘No match found.’
Kristin says
It was not available in the Chicago area last year. Super disappointing! So far they are not in stores are here this year. Do you know if all stores are supposed to get them this year?
Editor says
We haven’t heard anything on distribution this year. We can say it is in some markets that were left out before. Hope Chicago area is included for you this year.
MS says
Chicago is part of the Midwest region and they did not participate last year or this year. Hopefully it changes for next year.
Debbi says
We really liked the “Once Upon a Time – Chocolate Red” wine. We would love to buy a few bottles of this to share. But we can’t find it anywhere. Are these wines sold individually?
CK says
Are these glass or plastic bottles?
